The Pensions Regulator

Pensions Regulator Information

  • 1 Section 89 issued

  • 1302 compliance notices

The Pensions Regulator is the UK regulator of workplace pensions. Their role is to work with everyone involved in running and advising on workplace pensions as well as to ensure duties under the pensions legislation of 2008 are adhered to.

Pensions Regulator Penalties

The Pensions Regulator has been incredibly helpful and has preferred not to issue fines up until recently. If you miss your staging date by more than 5 months then you are required to make good all missed employer payments and should the next deadline be missed  those of the employees also.

This is what happened to a major well known retailer last year and they were issued with a section 89.

Flouting of the pension regulations can result in a daily fine and in extreme cases, imprisonment. Below is a guide outlining communications from the regulator, potential fines and documents required for submission.

The only way to check your staging date before the regulator writes to you is to input your PAYE number into the search box on the regulators website. Click the link below to check your staging date or contact us at jane.mccabe@tailoredautoenrolment.co.uk and we will do it for you.
